About Rock Springs
Rock Springs is located in southwest Wyoming at the strategic crossroads of Interstate 80 and U.S. Highway 191. The city now has nearly 19,000 residents and is truly booming.
Established in 1888 as a mining town, the natural resources around the area are the driving force behind the Rock Springs economy. For years, the area provided millions of tons of coal to feed the nation's locomotives. Today, the Rock Springs area continues to have a leadership role in the nation's energy production. Over half of the workforce is employed by the industry,
principally mining, petroleum, power generation and related services.

The Booming Economy
According to the Sweetwater Economic Development Association in August 2007, " Sweetwater County is enjoying increased economic activity due to the accelerated growth in energy development ... increased development of natural gas fields ... growth in coal mining, electrical generation and trona mining and refining. This has lead to a strong economy with a significant need for workforce and the housing required to accommodate them."
"Natrual gas expansion and development continues to grow. This activity will require local service companies such as Halliburton and Schlumberger to expand their workfoce by several hundred each."
The Casper Star Tribune states "A booming energy industry has helped Wyoming's average income double over the past decade."
